A Step in the Direction of Reducing Carbon Footprint

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) was implemented into UK Law in a bid to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment by advocating re-use, recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill.

Equanet offer a wide selection of services for WEEE-certified disposal. We provide logistics; pre-processing, in which asset details are collected and items are sorted; data erasure at different levels; recycling at component level; and certification of disposal under the WEEE Directive.

Pre-processing: An objective product assessment and classification carried out under the heading of Testing & Grading. An audit file is produced according to the customer’s needs from the equipment being disposed of. As audit requirements vary by customer, we always discuss requirements in depth to understand the scope of the work before we start.

Data erasure: With heightened sensitivity about data losses, secrecy, identity theft and the Data Protection Act, there are many different levels of data treatment available – from total data destruction, to data transfer and retention. We offer certifiable data erasure at different levels, according to data sensitivity from formatting the hard drive, right up to the highest standards of data erasure demanded by MOD and financial institutes.

Refurbishment: We carry out refurbishment services for customers who want items reconditioned for redeployment. This usually includes articles that still have a useful life and are being donated to schools and charities.

Recycling: Items no longer of any monetary value or are being replaced as they are at the end of their useful lifecycle need to go for recycling. For example, where items such as plastics are ground into pellet form for re-use in other manufacturing processes, precious metals used in coatings are laboriously collected – and what is left goes to environmental disposal.

This is also supported by fully certifiable recycling and waste reports. Equanet’s proven track record provides you with peace of mind when navigating the WEEE Directive.
